I’m pretty sure I need way more of these authentic sessions in my life, STAT! I’ll be honest, when I started in photography I had no idea what some of these style terms even meant. What the heck is “lifestyle” anyways!? Simply put, it’s just that REAL LIFE. I know what you’re thinking, why would I want picture of my everyday life? Let’s pump the brakes right there! There is 100% magic that can be found in every day life. What are some of your favorite memories growing up? Maybe making cookies with grandma? Or pancakes with mom and dad on Sunday morning?
Now let’s bring this thought back to this specific precious newborn gal and her family. Can you think back to those blury first few days and weeks at home with your babies? I know what you’re thinking; I don’t want to remember myself lookin’ like a hot mess, my house is hardly picture worthy, what would we even be doing? Let me tell you mama, you are not a hot mess. You just brought a new life into this world! I assure you, your house is fine as it is. This is your safe space and the perfect backdrop that highlights who you are as a family, what makes you unique and special. What might we be doing you ask? Consider me a family member who is here visiting and lovin’ on your new babe. Certainly we will get some “grandma” poses of you guys together as family, looking and smiling for the camera. But more than anything I’ll be capturing your life in this time frame. Diaper changes, feedings, endless clothing changes… amiright? We will snuggle in your nursery, play with siblings (of the furry or human variety) and most importantly capture the sweet simplicity of these early days together.
When this mama contacted me at the end of her pregnancy we chatted about a verity of options for a newborn session and I’d be lying if I said my heart wasn’t doing flips when she agreed to a lifestyle newborn session as being the best fit for capturing her sweet little lady’s arrival. This year specifically I’ve really found these unscripted moments grabbing my heart. There is something so genuine and heartfelt about this style of photography. It’s no secret. I’m a simple girl at heart. The simplicity of this session had my heart from the first few frames I shot. I loved being able to utilize their beautiful craftsman style home to highlight their family, and to be able to take these “everyday” moments and make them a little more magical.
